Iroko Theatre Company visits the school

June 19, 2014 in Event by PCSA

There was a true taste of Africa in school when the Iroko Theatre Company paid us a visit and had King Athelstan’s children enthralled with their traditional African storytelling on Monday 19 May. They then got everyone up on their feet taking part in African dance and drumming workshops throughout the day. This PCSA funded event was a great success and a fantastic example of how we use our funds to enrich our children’s education!

Christmas fair 2013 raised £2,300!

December 20, 2013 in Banner, Event, Xmas Fair by PCSA

xmasfair2 Christmas arrived early at King Athelstan School on Friday 6th December when we held the PCSA Christmas Fair.

A huge thank you to all parents, carers, teachers and pupils who helped out, not just on the day, but also in the lead up, by bringing in chocolates, sweets and bottles for our tombolas, for helping us to get raffle prizes donated, and those who have helped make crafts to sell. Thank you too to those who were kind enough to have estate agent’s boards up to advertise the fair.

This year we started early at 2.30pm to allow parents and carers the opportunity to have a look around in relative peace before picking up their children and coming back to enjoy it with them. We had a wide range of stalls for all to enjoy; tombolas, books, Christmas gifts, toys, lucky dip, food (samosas, sausage rolls and vegetarian pasta), drinks (including mulled wine!). We were even lucky enough to have Santa visiting, so children could visit him in his grotto and receive a present. We even had a few stalls outside this year in the KS2 playground which can now be easily accessed from the main hall thanks to the new doors!

Thanks to all those who came along and supported the event and helped us raise £2,300, an increase of £700 on the previous year! What a fantastic result. We hope you enjoyed it and we welcome any feedback on how to make it even better in the future. The money raised will be used to benefit all our children at the school.

Quiz Night

June 21, 2013 in Banner, Event by PCSA

On Friday 14 June at 8pm, the school’s main hall was transformed from how we all know it, into a cross between a Bollywood movie set and an Indian restaurant! Family and friends arrived and were greeted by the delicious smell of curry, a fully functioning bar and a quiz!

In addition, throughout the evening, a classic Bollywood movie was playing on the big screen, this included, unsurprisingly, love, life, death, and a lot of singing and dancing! After a few rounds of questions, everyone took a break for some food, kindly prepared by the PCSA, then it was back to the quiz.

At the end of the night, everyone agreed it was a successful evening. It raised £348.24 for the school.

There have already been discussions about a Mexican themed quiz night for the Autumn term.

One happy attendee commented:

“What a fabulous evening!  Great entertainment, great food, and great company, and not a child in sight! What a wonderful idea to have a curry, Bollywood, quiz night for adults only.  Perfectly organised - everyone had loads to eat and drink with lots of laughs! When are we all doing it again?!”

If you didn’t make it this time, you really missed out! We look forward to seeing you at our next quiz!
