A big well done to Picasso class who raised a fantastic £78.48 from their cake sale last week. The parents, carers and children made some wonderful cupcakes, flapjacks and biscuits – they were all very colourful and delicious!! Congratulations to Ollie who made the best cake and will receive his winner’s certificate at Thursday’s assembly. Picasso are now second behind Matisse class.
Rosseau will be the next class to take part. Their cake sale will be held at our ‘Spring Event’ on Friday 25th May in the KS2 playground, where you can also meet the animals from Cottage Mill Farm, buy second hand uniform and take part in our spring trail. We hope see you there.
Thank you for your continued support! All the money we raise supports the children of King Athelstan in getting a rich and exciting education!

On the last day of last term the PCSA booked Image Theatre Company to come and perform “The Wizard Of Oz” for our children. The play involved everyone from Reception upwards and was a truly interactive show with many children being given parts. The whole school joined in singing songs and doing actions – great fun was had by all!
Many children have been talking about it, commenting on how much fun the performance was. Mrs Fairweather reported ‘It was a fantastic show! The children were mesmerised and njoyed taking part in such an interactive event”.
The school have requested that we repeat this event next year, so watch this space to see what the next play will be!

May 2, 2012 in Banner, Solar panels
Have you seen the new addition to the school roofs?
The solar panels are part of our brand new PV Microgeneration System, donated to the school by a local company.
Did you know that the total solar energy absorbed by Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, and land masses in only one hour is greater than the total energy used by humans in one year?
Our new solar panels will generate free electricity for the school to use. This not only helps to cut the energy bills but also makes some extra income for the PCSA as we are allowed to sell the excess electricity we generate to the National Grid.
This clean energy will allow us to decrease our carbon footprint by over 7 tonnes of CO2 annually! This is a significant reduction in greenhouse gases, from fossil fuels, which would otherwise be released into the atmosphere. The solar energy that reaches the surface of our planet in one year is about double the amount of energy that can ever be obtained from all of the Earth’s fossil fuels – coal, oil, natural gas, and uranium combined. Our children will be made conscious of this fact and feel proud that their school is making the world a better place for future generations. In addition to this, the children will be made aware that there are two different types of solar panel being used. They will engage in some real science, tracking how the two technologies behave in different weather.
We would like to say a huge thank you to the company for this fantastic gift which helps us to become a greener school whilst generating funds for the PCSA at the same time!

A massive well done to all the children of King Athelstan for their amazing efforts in aid of ‘Sport Relief’. Foundation stage took part in an interactive yoga session and Years 1 to 6 ran the ‘sport relief mile’. Every child showed great determination and passion for this wonderful cause. We raised an incredible £1080.
A big thank you must go to our fantastic teachers Miss Osbaldistan and Mr Mc Laughlin for organising such a wonderful day.

During the Spring Term we raised over £420. The biggest contribution to this total was made by cake sales – £259. As usual, our pub quiz team didn’t disappoint – they earned another £50. Your on-line shopping contributed nearly £80 and jewellery sale brought in £33.
Thank you to everyone for their hard work and commitment to supporting the school. We are now preparing for our biggest fundraising events of the year – the Sumner Fair.
Our outgoings have been significant this term. We spent £1,840 supporting a number of activities and buying additional resources for the school. This included:
This amount was covered by income from the previous financial period. Our current balance is approx £1,250.
We are working closely with the school to agree on how we can support future projects – we will keep you informed!
